Kathleen Hanna is a punk singer, writer, artist, and the front-woman of the influential bands Bikini Kill and Le Tigre. Her memoir Rebel Girl was an instant New York Times and Sunday Times bestseller. She is a leading voice in the feminist movement and has been named one of the best live performers of our time. Shelby Morrison has worked for over 30 years in the music industry with a focus on inclusion, collaboration, relationship building, storytelling, exhibits, research, creatively sharing experiences and celebrating rock and roll history. Shelby got her start as a promotion’s producer for the ACM Corporation and founded a talent management group, StreetLight Productions in Texas. She has served on the Texas Music Alliance Board of Directors, the Music Museum Alliance, the Texas Association of Museums, Ohio Museum Association and the American Association of Museums.
Shelby also worked at the Buddy Holly Center where she worked closely with the Buddy Holly Estate and worked as a research assistant for the River Music Experience in Davenport, Iowa and the B.B. King Museum & Delta Interpretive Center in Indianola, Mississippi. She has also worked as a music research consultant for Becker & Mayer Publishing and was a contributing writer for exhibits at Midwestern State University. She has been a contributing music columnist for HubStuff Magazine and has an essay published in the book, Woman Walk the Line: How Country Music Changed Our Lives from University of Texas Press, which won the Belmont Book Award and was praised by People, Mojo, The Washington Post and No Depression.
Shelby holds degrees in fine art, photography and theater and performing arts. She believes that the cultural preservation and significance of women in music is an important part of our history, as a society and culture. Shelby regularly gives talks and presentations about women in music across the country and in 2010 worked with a team, including artists such as Cyndi Lauper, to create and develop a comprehensive exhibition about the history of women in music, Women Who Rock: Vision, Passion, Power which was featured at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
In 2024, Shelby worked with another team of female artists – Kathleen Hanna, Shirley Manson, Suzanne Vega, Lisa Loeb, Malina Moye, and Jane Wiedlin of The Go-Go’s to create the special exhibition, Revolutionary Women in Music: Left of Center, which is now open at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
